Looking to develop your creativity in 2019? Each of the sessions consists of a different taught skill/task (including painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media and textiles embellishment methods) and are designed to be accessible as individual workshops as well as building on previous skills over time. With a relaxed and supportive atmosphere these sessions are suitable for all abilities, with no previous experience necessary. They are a great way to explore a range of different techniques and discover what works for you.

Jigsaw Linocut Printmaking Workshop

10:00am - 4:00pm

Would you like to learn the magic of making colourful prints in just one printing layer? Have you previously attended a beginner linocut course? Yes? Then this is the workshop for you! The jigsaw linocut technique is an advanced technique that teaches you composition through creative play with shape, line and colour. In this one-day workshop you’ll be able to create a design suitable for jigsaw linocut, confidently cut and carve your design, experiment with colour, print a small edition and create a jigsaw lino block to take away with you to print again and again! This workshop is suitable for adults aged 18 years and above, beginners, improvers and those looking for some experimental fun! Places are limited to a maximum of 8 people per workshop, so you have plenty of time to ask questions and have the help you need. All tools, equipment and materials are provided, although if you have your own set of linocut tools and feel more confident using these, please do bring them along. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided throughout the day, please bring your own lunch, or you can pop out to the wonderful cafe around the corner from the gallery for something special. Writing Group Taster Workshop, Gather & Ink

9.30am-11.30am

This is one of two taster sessions for writers (beginners too) who would like to be a part of a regular writing group set to begin this Autumn.

Gather & Ink is a fortnightly writing group created to connect, guide and inspire people who write or dream of writing either for personal pleasure, blogging or books.

Somewhere to experiment with your voice, and explore who you are, right down to your bones.

Whether you are looking to explore the possibilities of being a writer, learn more about the healing power of journaling or make an impact through your words. Come and experience other perspectives, learn, grow and get your brave on. (whilst enjoying tea & cake!)

Each session will incorporate a learning element or workshop on a specific challenge the group may all be facing with our writing, there will be the opportunity to get some writing completed and receive peer support and coaching from Sam - plus encouragement to find your voice, flow and grow.

Fused glass workshops run throughout the year. Alex from Compton's Glass Workshop teaches all ages and ability. The workshops are friendly and relaxed. Your glass work is fired in a kiln and ready for collection one week later. Currently taking bookings of groups of 6. Contact Alex to book.

Poetry Workshop, Rhythm & Hues

9:30am-12:30pm

In this colour filled class, you will gain inspiration through a variety of sensory activities that will transport you into your own personal dance with colour and how it speaks to you. From this, you will experiment with different types of shapes and structures to bring your poem together with your own unique rhythm.

You’ll be tapping into the powerful tools of imagination and observation to create the story you wish to share from your explorations.

Each session will balance group and individual activities with gentle encouragement and direction.

By the end of the 3-hours, you will have a completed poem that can be treasured, shared or even submitted for publication.

Pattern play with rubber stamps Workshop

11:00am-3:00pm

Pattern Play with Rubber Stamps is fabulously fun workshop to explore creating a set of your very own rubber stamps. You’ll learn how to create a set of stamps from scratch, including carving your stamps, creating repeating patterns, overlaying different patterns as well as colours. You’ll be able to take your stamp blocks away with you to use again and again - this is a great introductory workshop if you’re interested in making your of printed papers for collage, wrapping papers, gift tags or cards.This workshop is suitable for adults aged 18 years and above, beginners, improvers and those looking for some experimental fun! Places are limited to a maximum of 10 people per workshop. All tools, equipment and materials are provided, although if you have your own set of linocut tools and feel more confident using these, please do bring them along.
